Hi! I'm Cameron, a fifteen year old girl who loves chickens! The whole website and newsletter kind of give that away 😊. I got seven hens for my birthday in 2020. I enjoyed taking care of them so much and loved watching them scurry around the yard and chase after bags of mealworms, that we have gotten more (or hatched some ourselves) every year since the first batch!!
I love to design and write, so I thought I could start a newsletter so anyone could learn about chickens, and hear stories about all of my adventures. Please consider subscribing to my monthly e-newsletter. By subscribing, you’ll get to learn a little more about the girls, and me!
To the e-newsletter!
We believe in healthy, organic food, that’s good for you and extra nutritious. We want our hens to enjoy freedom. Every day they roam on grass, catching bugs and enjoying themselves. We give them space to roam, and the hens, in return, give us healthy eggs daily.
This is us building our first coop: The Omlet. It only fit seven hens, but it worked out really well. It was very hard to set up, though, and definitely took more than 2 hours. This started the many adventures that would come with owning chickens.
Is when Cam’s Hens was founded. I didn’t start writing newsletters then, but I did find my new favorite hobby: chicken keeping!
This is me with Opal at the hatchery (Meyer Hatchery). It was my eleventh birthday. I was so excited to get my first babies: Opal, Debbie, Gertie, Gale, Nancy, Susan, and Lily. September 29th, 2020 was the beginning of an adventure in chicken keeping!
Do you have any questions about chickens or chicken-keeping? Let Cam answer them!
This was on one of the most memorable days of my life. I was surprised to see an egg in the nesting box when I went to close the coop doors at night. For a moment I couldn’t believe it. I rubbed my eyes and blinked. Yup, it was there all right! I almost cried out of pure joy. In a few seconds I was inside, telling my family. Everyone was thrilled. We had waited six long months for the first egg and finally it came! The first egg is like a first of anything exciting: a moment looked forward to!
